A Light in the Darkness

Let us not hide Jesus' light in us but put it on a stand and let it be seen by all

May you be made strong with all the strength which comes from his glorious power, so that you may be able to endure everything with patience. And with joy give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to have your share of what God has reserved for his people in the kingdom of light. He rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us safe into the kingdom of his dear Son. (Colossians 1:11-13 GNB)

When we hand over the throne of our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, believing that His death on the cross pays our debt for every sin we have committed, Paul teaches us that we are rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of Light.

What a move!!! Light has an outstanding effect on all of creation, and profoundly affects our spiritual life, illuminating all that we are, shining into all the hidden dark corners of our soul.

“I am the light of the world,” he said. “Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.” (John 8:12 GNB)

Jesus is the Light of the world. And when we are transported from the kingdom of darkness into His Kingdom of light, He tells us that we too are light to the world.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-16 GNB)

We can't manufacture light, but we can reflect the light of Jesus. When Christ lives in us by His Holy Spirit, His light shines through us. The Lord keeps us shining, turning our darkness into light, and as He does that, His light in us can transform the darkness around us because darkness cannot overpower light but light dispels darkness.

Let us not hide Jesus' light in us but put it on a stand and let it be seen by all. Let His light reach every part of our lives and fill every day. Then this light can change the world.

In the words of the song:
"I am a city on a hill. I am a light in the darkness.
Jesus living in me can change the world.
Let my light shine... Let your light shine...  Let it shine.
